Concrete and Highway Engineering Laboratory:

Concrete and Highway Engineering Laboratory is used to determine the strength parameters of the materials used in the construction of building or in the pavement construction. Here the materials like coarse aggregate, Concrete and bitumen are tested and its behaviour for the construction work is studied. It is very important to know the characteristics of the materials, which is used in the construction process of building/Highway Construction. Many research works are carried out in this laboratory and some of the tests are listed below,

  • Coarse Aggregate Test:
Water absorption test, Abrasion test, Specific gravity of coarse aggregate.
  • Concrete/Mortar Test:
Compression test of mortar and cubes, Split tensile test, Flexural test, workability test.
  • Bitumen Test:
Specific gravity bitumen, Penetration test, Viscosity test, Softening point test, Ductility test, Striping Test.

Surveying Laboratory:

Surveying Laboratory is used to study the topographical condition of the place in which the construction process to be carried-out. Surveying is the important process in very engineering projects. Before executing the construction work, survey should be done to mark the boundary/limit of the project area, built-up area, to know the undulation of land etc. For surveying process various instruments are used such as Chains, Compass, Plane Table, Levelling Instruments, Theodolite, Tacheometry, Total Station, Pocket Stereoscope, GPS.

Hydraulic Engineering Laboratory:

Hydraulic Engineering Laboratory is used to study about the water in motion and its interactions with the environment. It is mainly used to determine the flow rate of water in pipes, pumps and turbines and to link with the catchment area in which the flow occurs. Hydraulic Engineering is mainly based on the hydrological action and the runoff of water, which is experimentally analysed in this laboratory. Here various experiments are carried-out such as flow measurement, Losses in pipes, Study of pumps, Characteristics of turbines, Metacentric height of floating bodies.

Strength of Materials Laboratory:

Strength of Materials Laboratory is used for material testing under the action of various application of forces. Here the materials like mild steel, aluminium, bronze, springs are tested to find its impact property under different loading condition. Commonly used test are tensile test of rods, torsional test, Hardness test, Impact Test, Deflection of beam test, Spring test. Characteristics of various metals are tested under gradual load, Impact loading condition and its behaviour is analysed practically in this laboratory.

CAD Laboratory:

Cad Laboratory is the basic/key laboratory for the civil engineers to plan their ideas in building a project with various amenities. It is the place where the planning of the building, designing and analysis are done. The complete details of the proposed project should be developed and then the execution process is proceed in the construction site. The various software are used such as Auto CAD, STAAD Pro, Revit Architecture, Primavera, etc.

Soil Mechanics Laboratory:

Soil Mechanics Laboratory is mainly used to study or determine the properties of the soil samples collected from the various places/areas. It is very important to determine the strength parameters of the soil before the construction work. Based on the soil condition the various engineering projects are carried-out as the substructure is the place where the loads are distributed uniformly. In this laboratory the various parameters of the soil are determined such as specific gravity, grain size distribution, moisture content, relative density, permeability, shear test, bearing capacity of soil.

Environmental Engineering Laboratory:

Environmental Engineering Laboratory is used to determine the hazards in the environment surrounding us. It is mainly used to determine the contaminants present in the water which affects the environment and human health. The hazardous materials are determined and it is treated with various testing methods. In this testing process the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of water and wastewater can be analysed. Commonly analysed data are pH, Turbidity, Conductivity, Hardness, Chlorides, Suspended particles, COD, BOD, Sulphates, phosphates, etc.
